line-height: 200%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Where would America be <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">without Benjamin Franklin?<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Throughout <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the course of his life, he contributed several ideas and hopes that have shaped <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the nation.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>To this day, his <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">accomplishments continue to influence the country.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is important to note that Franklin was <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">more than a Founding Father or the fellow who connected electricity to <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lightning by flying a kite in a thunderstorm.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He was by every sense of the term, a renaissance man.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Franklin was skilled in printing, publishing, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">writing, and science.<br\/><br\/><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: 200%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Franklin\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">formal education ended once he had reached the age of ten.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, he had a thirst for knowledge and <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">taught himself many subjects through literature.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In his early teens, Franklin worked as an <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">apprentice to his older brother at his weekly newspaper, the <em>New-England Courant<\/em>.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As time passed, he <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">developed a fascination for writing, which prompted him to transcribe a series <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of fourteen compositions under the alias \u201cSilence Dogood\u201d at the age of s<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ixteen.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The feedback from the public <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">was a boost of encouragement to Franklin, they adored his writing.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Franklin grew in age and so did his passion <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">for the printing and publishing industry.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In 1729, he purchased the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Pennsylvania Gazette<\/em>, which eventually earned him wealth and status in society.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Perhaps it was this passion that aided him in <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">his other achievements as well. <br\/><br\/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: 200%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Franklin <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">had a desire to improve life for society, he did this by investing in public <\/span><span style=\"\">p<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">rojects.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He was concerned with <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">providing widows with welfare, forming a volunteer militia, and building the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">University of Pennsylvania in order to educate middle class children.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Franklin also built institutions\u00a0for the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">mentally disabled and a lending library.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He even devised a number of inventions for the public such as the<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, and the glass harmonica.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0<br\/><br\/><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: 200%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Franklin\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ambition only became bolder as he grew older.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In 1754, he printed his renowned cartoon \u201cJoin or Die\u201d in the <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Pennsylvania Gazette<\/em>, which would later<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">become a symbol of colonial unity against the British.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Soon, Franklin found himself immersed in the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">political world.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He was elected as president of <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the American Philosophical Society in 1769 and later was elected as a delegate <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the Second Continental Congress.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Time <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">passed and Franklin continued to climb the political ladder.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In 1776, he was appointed as a member of the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">committee of five who drafted the Declaration of Independence.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: 200%; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: 107%;
